  • 12 November 2026. ALA, Monte Estoril. 18.00 for 18.30. John Ilgar will talk on Prehistoric Portugal. Since arriving in Portugal five years ago, John has set about studying the country's numerous neolithic and more recent prehistoric sites, producing a series of excellent YouTube videos on megalithic dolmens, stone circles, and castros.

In this issue we look at the BBC's broadcasts to Portugal during World War II. A second main article reproduces part of the diaries of Prince William of Orange who joined the British Army in 1811. Other features include an article about an Irish doctor who investigated a yellow-fever outbreak in Lisbon in the 1850s. Our quiz question asks whether you know what "Para Inglês Ver" means.
