AGM, a talk on the links between Portuguese ruling families and the House of Savoy, and lunch (11 Jul 2026)

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Lunch will be held on Saturday, 11 July from 11.00 at the D. Carlos I restaurant in Areia, Cascais. Please note that, in response to requests from members, guests can now be invited to this event but they must absent themselves during the AGM discussions.

Before the AGM, our member, Riccardo Sciolti, will talk on Dynastic connections between Italy and Portugal, the Iberian Peninsula... and more! The House of Savoy held the County/ Duchy of Savoy and, later, the Italian throne for almost a thousand years, dating back to the very formation of the Kingdom of Portugal. The links between Italian ruling families and the Iberian Peninsula over centuries are complex and interesting, all the way from the late Middle Ages into the 19^th Century.

Finally, and somewhat to the speaker's surprise, unexpectedly strong ties existed at some point also between the House of Savoy and a famous English royal house, the Plantagenets.

Riccardo's talk will be followed by the Annual General Meeting, chaired by Filipe Lowndes Marques. All members will receive full details of this in a separate message, with the opportunity to vote by proxy for those unable to attend.

The price of the buffet lunch will be €40.00 (non-members €45.00). The menu is:

There will be a bar service available from 11.00 to 11.30, when Riccardo's talk will begin.

For those coming from Guincho, turn right at the first major roundabout at Areia, just after the camping site. For those coming from the A5, head straight on at the Quinta da Marinha roundabout with the horses statue, then turn left at the next roundabout along the side of the campsite. The restaurant is after the tennis courts at the end of a short, sandy road, so we do not advise washing your cars until after the event!
